Email actions
Email-actions are the reusable emails that automations send. Each one is a saved design with a subject line and HTML body — automations reference the email-action by id, so you can update the design once and every automation that uses it picks up the change.
Email-actions are the reusable emails that automations send. Each one is a saved design with a subject line and HTML body — automations reference the email-action by id, so you can update the design once and every automation that uses it picks up the change.
Think of an email-action as the message body of an automation, lifted out so it can be reused. The automation defines when and to whom; the email-action defines what arrives in the inbox. Splitting them lets you tweak copy without rebuilding rules.
Building one
- Click "New email action" and give it a clear, recognisable name — you will pick it from a dropdown when wiring up an automation, so future-you should recognise each option at a glance.
- Set the subject line. Merge tags work here, just like in a campaign — %%firstname%% in the subject is one of the strongest open-rate levers.
- Design the email in the editor — drag blocks, edit text and images, drop in merge tags. The interface is the same one you know from campaigns.
- Save. The email-action lands in the overview and becomes selectable from the automation wizard.
States: Draft and ReadyA Draft email-action is still being built and can't be referenced by an active automation. Once you have a subject and content, mark it Ready — only then can an automation send it.
Duplicate before you experimentIf an email-action is in use by an active automation, every save updates what those automations send right now. To try a redesign safely, use the Duplicate action, edit the copy, and re-point the automation to the new one when you are happy.
Editing affects every automation that references itEmail-actions are reusable, so a single edit can change the email sent by multiple active automations. Before changing copy in a shared one, check which automations reference it (or duplicate first — see the previous tip).
Why can't I pick this email-action in my automation?
Email-actions in the Draft state are not selectable. Open the email-action, finish the subject and design, and switch its state to Ready — then it appears in the automation's dropdown.
Can I delete an email-action that an automation uses?
Doing so leaves the automation pointing at nothing, which means it will fail to send. The safe path is to disable or delete the automation first, or to repoint it at a different email-action before deleting.
Do email-actions appear in campaign statistics?
No — they are tracked separately as part of the parent automation's statistics view. Open the automation and choose Info & Statistics from the actions menu to see opens, clicks, and recipient totals.
